Many manufacturers use luan plywood. This type of plywood is lightweight and contains fillers and resins to fill voids in the soft, unstable plywood core. It is these fillers that make luan plywood soft and cause it to warp easily. Luan will also have a very thin laminate as the top layer to hide the imperfections of the base layers. It is most commonly used in the hobby industry.
