What is a concrete curing blanket?
Insulation blankets--also called concrete curing blankets, concrete curing tarps, winter blankets, or masonry blankets--are designed to help maintain temperature and/or moisture levels in the early stages of the concrete curing process. They should be used during the curing and evaporation processes when working with concrete outdoors in colder weather. They offer a safe alternative to adding sealing or curing agents to concrete mix, which can actually inhibit evaporation and increase drying time.
How do concrete/masonry curing blankets work?
They work by keeping the heat in and the cold out. This method of insulating concrete is a better option than altering the cement/water ratio or using a heating source in an enclosed work area. Concrete blankets provide the thermal resistance required to prevent concrete projects from freezing. How long should you leave concrete blankets on?
It is extremely important that you maintain the optimal temperature for the appropriate time period when curing masonry and concrete construction. When it comes to drying concrete in the Fall and Winter months, we recommend you use a concrete insulation blanket or heated enclosure to maintain concrete temperatures above 50° degrees Fahrenheit. You should do so for three to seven days.
