Concrete Curing Blankets: Where to Buy & How-to Use

Why would an event supply company blog about concrete?

Well, there’s a couple reasons actually. First, we know that items like our tents are frequently used in industries other than party rental. Contractors and homeowners also represent a percentage of our client base. And from time to time, we like to highlight items we carry to serve those markets. Additionally, we like to shine a spotlight on brand partners like Moose Supply. Moose Supply is Tent and Table's preferred manufacturer of tarps, poly storage bags, and, you guessed it, concrete curing blankets. If you’re looking for an insulated concrete curing blanket, look no further.

What is a concrete curing blanket?

Insulation blankets--also called concrete curing blankets, concrete curing tarps, winter blankets, or masonry blankets--are designed to help maintain temperature and/or moisture levels in the early stages of the concrete curing process. They should be used during the curing and evaporation processes when working with concrete outdoors in colder weather. They offer a safe alternative to adding sealing or curing agents to concrete mix, which can actually inhibit evaporation and increase drying time.

How do concrete/masonry curing blankets work?

They work by keeping the heat in and the cold out. This method of insulating concrete is a better option than altering the cement/water ratio or using a heating source in an enclosed work area. Concrete blankets provide the thermal resistance required to prevent concrete projects from freezing. You'll find that a good concrete or masonry blanket functions to maximize the R value of interior insulation layers. Moose Supply winter blankets feature three layers of interior insulation.

What are concrete curing blankets made of?

Moose Supply Tarps and Blankets are high-quality and affordable. Moose Supply builds these from high-visibility orange, coated, woven PE with a 3-layer, closed-cell polyethylene foam core. These blankets have a 8x8 weave with 3/16" thick foam that has been double stitched and has reinforced hems for added strength and durability. They’re waterproof and highly-resistant to tears, mildew, and UV-damage; ensuring a long, useful life. We carry popular sizes including: 6’ x 24’, perfect for sidewalks; and 12’ x 24’, perfect for driveways and a favorite of DIY-inclined homeowners.

How long should you leave concrete blankets on?

It is extremely important that you maintain the optimal temperature for the appropriate time period when curing masonry and concrete construction. When it comes to drying concrete in the Fall and Winter months, we recommend you use a concrete insulation blanket or heated enclosure to maintain concrete temperatures above 50° degrees Fahrenheit. You should do so for three to seven days.

Did you know? Because of their similarity to poly tarps, a PE blanket can double as a ground or scaffolding cover.
